With proper investment and attention to Destiny Gold detail, I think EA Bioware could make an awesome RMT-based MMO for SW:TOR. Here are the acceptable implementations imho:
Pay to play: Rather than paying a flat monthly fee for unlimited access (during that month), they could take the Asia/WoW approach and charge us a small fee for each hour we play.
Aesthetic variety: Aesthetics don't really have a terribly negative impact on the game and are probably the safest way to introduce RMT without pissing off players. Ship the game with XX character models and basic character customization, but charge a bit more if you want access to the more unique models and customizations. The free lightsabers are available in blue, green, and red, however yellow, orange, purple, and pink cost $XX. Have in-game tailors that will take your current item and reskin it to something more unique for RL money.
Player housing: Again, this is a highly sought-after feature in many MMORPGs but they don't really impact how you play the game, nor do they give you a competitive edge over someone else. Create a rich housing system and give everyone access to the basics. Then you can basically turn it into a Sims-like race for people to show off their unique architecture and design tastes for RL cash. Much of society already wants to be "keeping up with the Jones'" so this seems like a perfect system for RMT.
